Open Question: Trouble with my marriage?what can i do?
When i met him,i was 23,he was 40,he was struggling and living in a shared apartment with a divorced father and three kids.He also was a recovering alcoholic and had to blow through a meter device anytime he had to drive.My first instinct was to run but there was something about the way he treated me,the kindness and he was always there for me.We ended up getting married 2 yrs later,he helped support me in school financially and he seemed to be getting his act together,no drinking, no smoking like he promised.I graduated and my first job ended up being about 3hrs away.With the current layoffs and recession at the time,we made the decision that i would take the job since his career was unpredictable but i would come home during the weekend and so would he.
As soon as i started working,everything fell apart,my husband would withdraw money randomly,we ended up having $1000 overdraft charges,so i had to cancell our joint account…i complained but he didn’t listen,he started gambling,started smoking,drinking,said my job was supposed to be a kind of backup for when he got laid off so i’m supposed to start paying some of the bills like his car payment,cellphone bills, insurances, complained about having kids in the future…afraid of the responsibility,complained about buying a house,goes to his 81 yrs father to ask for money,and i found out that he posted his profile as divorced on over 8 dating websites.I confronted him and he said it was out of boredom,,,started to blame me for moving to the new job,started throwing tantrums and sometimes acts as if he’s going to be violent by throwing things and yelling at me in a threatening manner and i get a little scared but he apologises later.Last year,i ended up giving him thousands of dollars to take care of bills because he got laid off temporarily but he went back to work shortly after.He’s a union electrician(general foreman)but he has been fortunate enough to get back to work shortly after each project enough to make twice my income.When we filed our taxes,i found out that he made twice my income and even withdrew some annuity money while still collecting money from me yet he was broke.At one point,he had called me to wire $200 western union.Then he caught up…or so…I told him that i don’t understand why i’m still able to save even though i still pay for all the bills in my second residences upstate.
I’m 30yrs old,afraid of starting over,i want to have a child…i thought i could make things work…thought he would change until a few days ago…i found out that he’s being dating different women,having midnight flings,,..contacting women everywhere anywhere.. on.craiglist…any dating sites u can imagine and a woman kept calling his phone at odd times of the night….our phone record is combined so i saw that.I don’t get it…some of the women seem much older and not even really attractive.I have a fantastic body and i’m even more sexual than he is.Still,why does he cheat?He confessed to me that yes he cheated and that she meant nothing…and i was so hurt…so i went upstate to have space and work .He started screaming that he knew that he did a terrible thing but i need to forgive him and give him a decision soon two days after i found out what he’s been up to…i was furious.Today he’s apologizing and begging that he’ll change and texting me all day because he senses that i’m truly leaving.We’ve been together for 7yrs yet i find that i still love him….yet i know he’s bad for me…plus i’m 30.I want a child of my own,..even if things fail at least i’ll have my kid.
My sister thinks i’m crazy and she says not to settle.There are no guarantees in love and marriage so why can’t i just stay in my situation.I don’t trust him…he’s totally different in my eyes now…yet i’m wondering how can i fix this?I’m an engineer,goodlooking,30yrs old,ambitious,fun,kind,family oriented yet i’m afraid to start over…i’m i crazy for thinking of staying?trying to fix it?he was there for me at the beginning…..
