It’s an opinion essay. We are suppose to compare a quote to a short story.
The above quote means that our ‘modern’ response to many things in our society is ‘whatever.’ It indicates that our society is uncaring; invasion of privacy, strong emotions and using merchandise and people for short-term advantages seem normal to us. The meaning of the quote is not only noticeable in our society, but it is also observable in the form of literature. The quote’s meaning is evident throughout the short story “Raj, Bohemian” by Hari Kunzru. One of the main points noticeable in the short story and the world is the invasion of privacy.
Many people in our society are okay with the idea of privacy being invaded since it does not affect us. Many of us know that corporations (e.g. Google, Apple, and Microsoft) and governments can watch over us using internet, cell phones, GPS systems etc.
Open Question: Boyfriend of 3 and a half years broke up with me… help?
Sorry about the novel:
So about 2 days ago he broke up with me out of the blue. Well, we actually had a really REALLY small fight on the phone about him not calling me much lately, even though he was acting normal. So he had hung up on me. I gave him time to cool off, and tried calling him back, but no answer. (btw, he basically lives at his friend’s house theese days because it’s pretty bad at his house. he also uses his friend’s cell phone cause he doesn’t have one) I went on Facebook shortly after and saw he had deleted me as a friend and changed his status to “single”… I was floored. I tried getting in contact with him but he ignored me at every turn. His friend’s cell, his friend’s facebook, etc. Wouldn’t talk to me, period. I managed to get our mutual friend who is away at college to talk to him and try to get him to call me, but he just wouldn’t have any of it. The next day I managed to go by his friend’s house and talk to him. He was really nervous and hesitated answering me. I didn’t come in mad, I just wanted my answer. He looked me in the eyes (not meanly) and basically told me he didn’t love me anymore. So I quietly walked out and that was that.
Right now I’m probably doing better than most people, but I can’t stand the waves of depression. The night it happened, I cried and cried. And the day I finally talked to him, I cried and cried. So I’ve dealt with the sadness of it. I just don’t want to anymore. I doubt he ever is going to talk to me again, because he is a major coward right now.
I feel like I can’t be mad at him, because it happened so fast, and I thought things were going fine. I really wish I could be mad at him though, I don’t know if it would help or not…
I just really need some guidance right now. I’ve been in a similar position before, of a relationship of 9 months that happened about 4 years ago, and I really loved him. I thought my life was over when we broke up, but I was fine after a while, and then I found my now ex and we dated for 3 and a half years. Which by the way, were hard sometimes with his family being horrible people, and him having issues with jobs and social anxiety, etc.
Anyway, I really need some advice. Thanks guys
