Open Question: Does my wifi usage count towards my cellular data usage on my iPhone 3GS?
I picked up my 3GS on Friday night and didn’t set it up obviously until I got home where I have a wifi connection.

I only used my phone to download some basic apps such as, last fm, natwest banking and facebook.

How when I checked my usage….I had already sent and received a couple of hundred Kb’s and became very concerned.

I took a trip back to Vodafone as when I got the phone they said that I could use the phone to download as much as I like using wifi and it won’t count towards my 1gb usage. The guy didn’t seem to believe me and decided to give me a demo of the fact that any usage isn’t counted towards the cellular usage but flicking thru some webpages on the phone whilst using Apple’s free wifi across the way. Typically no usage was used but he barely used it and it tends to be delayed in appearing on the phone?

I went and asked the guy in Apple who was VERYhelpful and he seems to think that even if I am using my wifi connection to download apps etc then it’ll still be combined with the actual network data usage so there isn’t actually a way to follow your actual network usage.

Last night I flicked thru a couple of songs whilst in bed on last.fm and checked my usage….nothing had changed. Left the phone on charge, woke up and checked the usage and about 50KB’s or so ha been added on.

Can anyone explain this mysterious situation??? I’ve tried reading some stuff up on the net and nobody seems to be clear on what does and doesn’t count??

Any info in simple language (I’m not overly techinical) would be really helpul and will put my mind at rest….FINALLY!
