Open Question: What score would you give?
So i wrote an essay in 25 minutes. the SAT Prompt was: Do changes that make our lives easier not necessarily make them better? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

Up to present day, humanity has created many innovative technology, ranging from the tiny cellphone to the massive nuclear bomb. Although these devices serve to make our life easier in one way or another, they all come with a detrimental side-effect.

Back in the 18th Century, people in the USA were using the telegraph to communicate. The thought of a long distance call was fascinating back then. Nowadays, everyone is used to picking up their mobile or cellular phones daily. Although communication is more convenient nowadays, it has caused the loss of personal contact. Front to front communication is exhibited less often and text messaging is becoming more common. These modern devices are sending our civilization in the wrong direction. If they become even more preeminent and prevalent in the future, our society will fall apart socially.

Stretching all the way back to the medieval periods to present day, humans have been fighting wars. As time progressed, the weapons invented became more efficient and dangerous. While superior weapons helped ensure the safety and security of a country , it had long-term consequences. In WWII, the USA bombed Japan with the nuclear bomb. While this one attack stopped the war very quickly, it put Japan in a very devastating situation, due to the annihilation of the people and cities. The effects of the nuclear bombs invention can even be seen today. Outside the USA, countries like North Korea are developing their own nuclear weapons, endangering the lives of humanity. The short-term benefits of the nuclear bomb came with long-term consequences.

In conclusion, the changes that technology bring to our life are both positive and negative. While we can appreciate the initial convenience they provide for us, we must also prepare for the drawbacks that it holds. Change is double-edged.

Please remember that this was done under 25 minutes. the score range is from 1-6, and please comment on why you gave your score, and where I could improve.

Open Question: does my phone carrier charge me if i use an unlocked 3g iphone?
i have a normal plan paid monthly with Rogers (not iphone data plan) ~ $15 a month or something for certain minutes during the day, 1000 texts per month…i dont use internet or download stuff ’cause it’d be expensive.

So i got a 3g iphone from a family member but with another carrier…I unlocked it and it seems to work perfectly with my normal Rogers sim card. My question is does Rogers charge me if they pick up on the signals that i am using the unlocked 3g iphone? Or does it work just like a regular phone (& ipod touch)? Do i have to turn off the 3g & data roaming & cellular data settings? I just want an iphone that works like a regular phone (calling/texting) & ipod touch features (some game applications & wifi); I dont want to see expensive billing at the end of the month lol…thanks!!! :)

Resolved Question: Is this variation of Airplane Mode on my iPhone 3GS possible?
I live in Canada and I will be going to the USA for 8 weeks for an internship. I intend to bring my iPhone with me. However, I don’t intend to use it for it’s data or cellular services, simply the applications itself, in order to avoid ridiculous fees. So basically, I want to use it while I’m there as if it were simply an iPod Touch.

I have a script to block the cellular dataplan (internet) alone, but is there a way to disable both that AND the calls/text WITHOUT putting the phone into Airplane Mode? If I use Airplane Mode I won’t be able to access Wifi connections, and I would like to.
I’ve already mentioned it’s a 3GS but I am running the latest version of iOS4.
