Open Question: I can’t call or text unless 3g is turned on ?
For you jailbreaking/unlocking gurus out there.. I jailbroke and successfully unlocked my iphone 3gs running on ios 5.0.1 using absinthe to jailbreak and using ultrasnow through cydia to unlock.

Basically the problem is, if 3g is turned off in my settings, then I cannot use it to make calls or text. It will say “Searching” or “no service” in the status bar. But if i turn on 3g, then I have service and it recognizes the carrier and I can make calls and receive texts.

But having 3g on all the time drains my battery insanely rapidly, and I fear it might impact my cellphone bill somehow (even though in my settings I have Cellular Data turned off).

Any ideas? I shouldn’t have to be constantly on 3g for me to use the phone right?

Open Question: why don’t cellular phone companies make optional phones designed for talking while driving?
i don’t mean those silly bluetooth things, i mean something that’s designed like a cb radio. i find it unfair that those with cb radios can easily pick up the cb radio and talk while they’re driving with minimal risk while driving, but that phone companies don’t have something along that design for others. the keypad in cellular phones is so tiny that sometimes your fingers can’t press other buttons without accidentally pressing something else. they make cellular phones car unfriendly.
instead of designing the same type of useless cellular phone for driving, they should’ve designed something better by now.

cellular phones carry a desire and expectation of being able to talk while you’re out and about and that includes being behind the wheel while you’re driving.
cellular phone companies should design something for driving.

oh yeah, and it’s hypocritical for them to design and sell chargers that charge in a vehicle, and then for others to say they can’t use the cellular phone while driving.
maybe if they never sold cellular phone chargers that charge in a vehicle, maybe there wouldn’t be so much useage of cellular phones while driving.
oh, and the hassle that comes with squeezing the sides of a cellular phone prong together just to charge it and then to pull it out and just the hassle of sticking it in there rather than it being a recessed fitting like with cordless phone landlines, its no wonder cellular phones always run out of power, because it’s a hassle just to charge them.
